In the winter, there are lots of things to do in Pagosa. Some people come to
ice fish, ski, cross country ski, snow shoe, snowmobile or just make snow angels. Anyway you slice it,
we get more snow than any other place in the state of Colorado. That is
Wolf Creek's claim to fame. You will find so many blue bird days with
fresh powder. It's a great feeling to see your fresh tracks on the slop. We assembled a short list of some
ways to enjoy our winter
activities and hope you find it helpful!

Snowmobiling
Contractors (they have to get a permit from the National Forest
Service) for renting machines and doing trail rides vary. Over the years,
they come and go in and out of business. Just be sure that your
"outfitter" can take you from Wolf Creek. You meet them up at the summit.
Or at least on this side of the pass. One of them asks that you meet them
in Chama -- which is great snowmobiling, but an hour drive. The chamber of
commerce will have a list of active companies.

Snow Shoe
You can rent equipment at Pagosa Ski Rentals or buy them at
Switchback outdoor gear. This is the best way to play on the trails around
town or walk out across the lake. All you need to bring is hiking boots,
and if you already have walking or ski poles you are set. The snow shoes
just grip on to your boots and like magic, you walk across the top of the mounds
and piles of snow surrounding town on trails. We just like to walk around
the lake!

Sledding
There are two places in town where lots of locals and their kids go
to sled. One is reservoir hill downtown above the post office. You
can ask anyone for directions. The other is on hole 4 of the Ponderosa
loop on the golf course parallel to highway 160.
Sleigh Rides
What a magic way to celebrate being on vacation in the snow!
